OK. Let me clear one thing first. I am a serious, professional gamer. I do not waste my time playing stupid zombie games. Now, after saying that, let me tell you that Dying Light is NOT a zombie game. Zombies are undead. In this game you will only find infected. People got infected after a terrible disease broke out. So, I am true to my status as a gamer for reviewing this game after playing it and enjoying it a lot.
Dying Light is a game where you do mostly hand to hand combat but there is still the occasional gun. I wouldn’t like the game if there wasn’t any gun play and guns do help you in difficult situations. The other aspect of the game is the classic parkour way of moving around two huge cities. And I mean huge and so well crafted in every detail that if it wasn’t for the zombies you could stroll around like a tourist for days. I mean, I have spent a great deal of time playing this game and I believe I still have missed a lot of areas.
Crafting works great. It gets a bit boring to continuously collect materials but you can build a great deal of damaging blades or blunt weapons, let alone the ways to ignite the mindless infected.
Apart from all of the above, there is also a story, even though weak but still it is there with all the appropriate cut-scenes to avoid a boring repeating killing game.
The graphics and sounds are superb, and the day and night cycles work great if you manage to survive the first “tutorial” night outside a safehouse which might get a bit difficult since the game puts you in the night from the very begining. Anyway, after that, I avoided the dark as much as possible.
This is an excellent adveture, combat, parkour game you will enjoy. And it is huge. It is NOT a zombie game. I would call it a post-pandemic kind of game.
